What are they?

Raised part of Earth's surface with sloping sides. They are lower in elevation than mountains.

How are they made?

Elevation (n): the height of something above seas level.

Rock debris and sand deposits build up to create a raised area above Earth's surface.

A hill made by people is called a mound.

A landform with a summit less then 1,000 feet is a hill.
