Hi, friend! I get to do something a little less conventional on the blog this week, but I’m honestly really excited about it. I get to share with you about another teacher blogger that I follow as part of my graduate program at Appalachian, and let me tell you- you’re in for a treat!
Tali Rosevear is not only the creator of Ms. Rosevear’s Blog, but she is also a dedicated dog mom to the cutest pups and fiancé to a coffee genius here in Boone. Every week, as I read Tali’s blog, I find myself inspired not only as a future teacher of writing but also as a real life writer too!
One of my favorite things about reading Tali’s blog each week is the connections that she makes between the content that we are learning and her own life. For instance, in her post “Reading, Writing, and Teaching Poetry”, Tali discusses the way that she discovered her own favorite poet on Instagram, Tyler Knott Gregson. Because Tali finds a way to consistently bring the real world into her blog, I finish reading constantly inspired to seek out places in my life where I can make more connections to the content that we are learning about.
In my own writing, Tali has pushed me to consider using less scaffolds- especially as I write poetry. This is because Tali is a brave writer, and I really admire that. She is willing to try things even if she isn’t quite sure how it will turn out, and it never fails to leave her with a stunning piece of work. For more details about this, you should check out her piece on “Revising a Narrative”.
I find a lot of Tali’s perspectives on teaching writing to be refreshing as she explores living as a teacher-writer in real time. She often discusses methods and practices that she would implement in her own classroom based on her own experiences with writing which leaves her suggestions more meaningful.
